What is WASAP?

WASAP was established in 2004 to assist the Indonesian Government improve service coverage and quality in the Water and Sanitation sector (WSS), as well as to promote sectoral and intitutional reforms and increased investments. WASAP is supported by a grant $24,5 million from the Royal Netherlands Embassy and executed by the Government of Indonesia (GOI) and the World Bank (WB). The program is planned for implementation over a five year period (2005–2009) by providing targeted support for activities in selected river basins, watersheds, cities, towns, and water utilities. WASAP aims to improve water and sanitation access in Indonesia through domestic, productive and holistic water management.

 

Focus is in three areas:

  • Water supply to improve Indonesian citizen’s access to safe water;
  • Sanitation to improve people’s health and welfare and to avoid contamination of raw water supplies
  • Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) as a vehicle for ensuring adequate raw water supply
